Fairfield ISD will have a slightly longer school day, fifteen minutes to be exact, during the 2020-2021 School Calendar.
The School Board met on Monday, June 8, 2020 with a variety of items on the agenda, including choosing which schedule would be best going forward into the new school year.
Superintendent Dr. Jason Adams explains the addition by stating that it, “Gives the District ten ‘bank’ days in case of illness related absences throughout the year. The extra time also provides an extra one hour and fifteen minutes of instruction time per week.”
Each campus will be able to decide how to best use the fifteen minutes at their specific campus.
The Navarro Property purchase closed on Tuesday, June 11, 2020, and is now the new Fairfield ISD property and will be called that until a time a new name is assigned.
The Board decided not to move forward with any remediation and/or abatement, at this time while it focuses on a new roof for the main building plus HVAC repair.
Cleanup on the new campus will begin as soon as possible, and there are plans to have fiber run to the building and establishing the FISD network.
A price increase for school lunches was included, .05 cents for breakfast and .10 cents for lunch, on all campuses with no increase to the cost of reduced lunch.
The USDA requires this increase to avoid federal funding subsidizing the regular priced meals.
The Board decided to hire three new teaching positions: a boy’s teacher/coach at the junior high, a girl’s teacher/coach, also at the junior high, and an intermediate teacher.
Other topics discussed include:
–Donation from Community National Bank and Trust of Texas for baseball and softball scoreboards was accepted.
–2020-21 Teacher Compensation packages were approved, this posted on the school’s website.
–Covid-19 related waivers that help with funding for missed days.
–Discussion took place over plans to upgrade WiFi hotspots, make each campus a hot spots and adding Wi-Fi to ten buses for remote learning.
