February 2020 rainfall topped normal with 8.53 inches and gained the number two spot as the second wettest February on record over the past 26 years. February 1997 holds the record with 9.57 inches of rain. The record driest February was 0.13 inch in 1999.
We had seven days with measureable rainfall with a greatest one-day total of 3.55 inches on February 12. Our normal rainfall for February is 2.96 inches. We did have 0.02 inch of melted snow on February 5. On a ten-to-one ratio, that would have been about 0.10 inch of snow.
Our rainfall total for the year stands at 12.74 inches. Normal for January through February is 5.96 inches.
February temperatures were somewhat above normal with highs mainly in the mid-fifties to mid-seventies and lows in the mid- thirties to the mid- fifties. We had our first winter freeze at 32 degrees on February 27. We did have two freezes back in November and two in the Autumn portion of December.
We had a high temperature of 77 degrees on February 16 and a low of 32 degrees on February 27.
Looking ahead to March: March ushers in Spring with warmer temperature ahead but be aware that March often produces some frosty mornings.
March is normally among our top five wettest months of the year with 4.43 inches of rain. Our record wettest March was 9.54 inches in 2012. The record driest March was on year earlier with 0.25 inch of rain in 2011.
