An agreement to send the City of Fairfield a settlement offer was made after the Executive Session during the City of Teague’s Board of Alderman meeting Tuesday, February 18, 2020.

Alderman Place 1 – Jerry Ballew made a motion, after the Board of Alderman came out of Executive Session, to “send a Settlement offer to the City of Fairfield Attorney and City Council based on the value of the jointly owned assets of the TDCJ facility.”

The Board decided that the Old Municipal Power Plant building had become too damaged to consider repairing after going to view the building themselves.

They had received bids on demolition from multiple different companies, but decided to reject them all in order to receive new bids with the requirement to keep the slab intact.

Teague Library will be receiving new LED lights after the Board of Aldermen voted to approve a bid.

The Library has had much work lately, and the Board decided that, with the popularity of the Library, it would be in the community’s best interest to upgrade the lights to something more modern.

Other actions approved during the meeting were:

–Mayor James Monk proclaimed May 3 through 9 2020 to be National Small Business Week.

–Teague Chief of Police DeWayne Philpott received a 3.5% raise upon receiving his Masters Degree in Criminal Justice.

–Fee Schedule was updated to include the addition of changes made over the past months, including food truck fees, tie down fees, etc.

–Council approved the 2020 City of Teague Safety Program.

–The DJ-Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Application was approved to be applied for by Chief Philpott for updated patrol vehicle camera equipment.

The Board agreed throughout the meeting with every vote passing with three in favor and Alderman Place 3 Marie Hertenberger and Alderman Place 4 Chris Nickleberry absent.
