Several races have formed in local city and school elections, as of press day on Monday, and at least one, the City of Fairfield election, has shuffled around a bit.
Ballots should be finalized this week with the deadline for filing as a write-in candidate is Tuesday, February 18th and the deadline to withdraw candidacy from a race is Friday, February 21st.
Contested races include the cities of Fairfield, Teague and Streetman, and the school districts of Fairfield and Wortham.
Teague ISD had two candidates file for two open positions: incumbent Lovie Whyte (Place 1) and Deborah Lawrence (Place 3). If no other candidate files as a Write-In, that election is expected to be canceled due to lack of opposition.
City of Wortham was closed for President’s Day holiday on Monday. Look for their final candidate list in next week’s print edition.
Election is set for Saturday, May 2, 2020 with early voting starting April 20th.
In addition, a Special Election has been called for Fairfield Hospital District for Voting for or against the proposition to reducing the tax rate in Fairfield Hospital District for the current year from 0.215 to 0.137203 (see page 5-B for article).
