Contested races are starting to form in local city and school elections, as the filing date looms this Valentine’s Day Friday.
Vying for Fairfield Mayor will be incumbent Kenneth Hughes, James Tyus (whose place on the council opens up this year) and Jason Bosley (who previously served a 10-month appointed term on the council).
Seeking to fill one of two At-Large Places on Fairfield ISD School Board are incumbents Kevin Benedict and John Fryer, along with new contestant Kyle Lightsey.
Finally, for the City of Streetman, three candidates have filed for two At-Large Commissioner positions.
Filing period to place your name on the ballot, for both either city council or school board, will close on Friday, February 14th, 2020.
Candidates filing as of press time this week include:
FAIRFIELD – filing for Mayor are Kenneth Hughes, James Tyus and Jason Bosley; for Councilman (Place 2) is Randy Johnson.
TEAGUE – filing for Mayor is James Monks; for Alderman is Jerry Ballew (Place 1);
WORTHAM – filing for Councilman is Susan Gibbs;
STREETMAN – filing for Mayor is Johnny Robinson; for Streetman Commissioners are Heather Davis, Barbara Polk and Billy R. Butler;
FAIRFIELD ISD – filing for Board member are Kevin Benedict, John Fryer, and Kyle Lightsey;
TEAGUE ISD – filings for Board member are Lovie Whyte (Place 1) and Deborah Lawrence (Place 3);
WORTHAM ISD – filing for Board member are Michael Dunn (Place 5), Waylon Gierisch (Place 6) and Jeff Jones (Place 7).

–Teague (254-739-2547) – Mayor, Alderman – Place 1 and Place 3.
–Wortham (254-765-3319) – Councilman – three Places At Large.
–Streetman (903-599-2567) – Mayor, Commissioners – two Places At Large.
SCHOOL DISTRICT
–Fairfield (903-389-2532) – Two Places At Large.
–Teague (254-739-1300) – Two Places At Large.
–Wortham (254-765-3095) – Place 5, Place 6, and Place 7.
–Dew – Dew ISD holds elections in November.
