January is National Volunteer Blood Donor Month, and you know what the best part of donating blood is?  Easily, it is the cookies.

“We cannot make blood.” Public Relations Director of Carter BloodCare Linda Goelzer

Mrs. Goelzer took time to educate me on why January is such an important month for blood donations, and I am here to share what I have learned.

If you did not know, every 90 seconds someone needs a transfusion.  By the time, you have read this two people will have needed a transfusion.

Remember those cookies I mentioned; keep thinking about them, yes, think about those super yummy cookies.

People need transfusions for multiple reasons; cancer treatments, an accident, and surgery are three well-known reasons.

One important factor about blood donations most people do not know; blood, platelets and plasma have a shelf life.

Blood donations save lives, but donations are steadily declining as the older generations die.

They need 15,000 blood donors in January alone, but that they usually see less than that.

In order to keep a steady stream of blood for people in need, you need a steady stream of blood donors.

Are you still thinking about those cookies?

Carter BloodCare actively works going out into communities so donors can donate closer to home.

They set up in multiple locations

Their website www.carterbloodcare.org has an interactive map to help you locate where they are located and on what day to better help you reach out and donate, or call 1-800-366-2834.

To honor these wonderful donors, they have a special gift through Friday, January 17th, 2020.

A gift, a delicious gift, COOKIES!!!!

Not just any cookies though, Girl Scout Cookies, did you just drool a little?  I bet you did.

Let us be honest, you should donate blood because it saves lives.  One day it could be you or someone you love who needs that blood.

BUT! If you can do the right thing AND score cookies.  Well – that is an added bonus for your taste buds.

Donating blood and a happy mouth, that makes One Amazing Month very proud.
