Disc Golf will be coming to the City of Fairfield in a big way, with last week’s approval to sign a contract with AirBnb Managers to construct an 18-Hole course at the City Park.

Last year, Fairfield Council had approved construction of the Disc Golf course with the use of Hotel / Motel funds, but the project was delayed in the anticipation of utilizing a portion of acreage of the Navarro Complex which, at the time, the City had been considering to acquire.

“Purchase of the [Navarro Complex] property has been resolved,” stated Fairfield City Administrator Nate Smith.

The City of Fairfield dropped their pursuit of the 18-acre property and campus of buildings last month when citizens voted against the issuance of the Certificates of Obligation in a Special Called Election.

The Certificates were to fund several projects, including the acquisition and renovation of the Navarro property, adjacent to the park and fairgrounds already owned by the City.

Co-Designer, Andrew Weitner, explained to Council members how the Disc Golf Course would be redesigned to remain inside City Park boundaries.

Special consideration was made when determining the location of each hole, for minimal interference with other events at the City Park. Select baskets will be removal, as needed for parking during the County Fair, and poles will be painted in safety orange.

The approved design will also include a Clownsmouth Mandatory Wall at the 18th hole that will incorporate the existing baseball backstop. The wall will include course signage and sponsorships.

According to Weitner, once construction begins, the 18-hole course could be completed within three months.

Included in the contract agreement, Weitner and his partner, Casey Wright, will conduct four tournaments in the first two years: two PDGA sanctioned events and two Kid Crusher events.
