Each year the Chaplain’s from both the State Supported Living Centers and State Hospitals gather for a week in October for our Annual Conference. They are always such a great time to come together in such a beautiful setting, at Mo Ranch in Hunt, Texas. It is a time of training on different topic’s related to our roles on our campus. For our conference 2019 the theme was “Chaplaincy, Practicing the presence of God with dignity and vocation” with instructor Dr. Phil Helsel of Austin Presbyterian theological Seminary. He was outstanding, as he has served in the role as Chaplain also.
October 21-24th, we gathered for a wonderful week of fellowship and meeting some that are new to their jobs. Three of the Chaplain’s that have over 25 years of tenure with Chaplaincy Services were from Kerrville, San Antonio and Mexia.
Our special guest each year is Scott Schalchlin the Associate Commissioner that expressed appreciation to us for our roles on the campus’ we serve. This year he encouraged us to please, be available to our direct care staff as their duties are often overwhelming and we can possibly help encourage them.
I appreciate Melinda and Tonya for allowing me to attend again this year. It was a blessing to me and all of us that get to attend. Those represented were from Big Springs, Kerrville, Austin, San Angelo, Lubbock, Richmond, Denton, Vernon, Wichita Falls and San Antonio.
