Freestone County Historical museum opened their doors for the Veteran’s Day Celebration on Saturday, November 9th, 2019.
It was a beautiful and emotional celebration to honor those who make or have made sacrifices to keep our country free.
The Fairfield Chamber of Commerce together with Freestone Medical Center, Fairfield Nursing & Rehab, and various members of the community pulled together to show our local veteran’s how important they are.
Cub Scout pack #668 color guard did the Presentation of Colors immediately followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
Avi Hughes did a fantastic job singing the Star Spangled Banner for everyone in attendance, and later Don Thornton sang God Bless America immediately followed by the Armed Forces Medley.
During Thornton’s Armed Forces Medley he asked each veteran to stand during their branches song, bringing an even deeper meaning to words we all know well.
Sheriff Jeremy Shipley spoke with emotion on the true sacrifices asked of an American Soldier.
The celebration was a thought provoking way to go forward to Veteran’s Day to help us remember the words, ‘Thank you for serving,’ true meaning.
