The Teague Lions have been road warriors over the last few weeks and the final road trip in the string was a dominating victory by the Grandview Zebras 52-7 Friday night.
The defending state champion from last season built a 28-0 halftime lead and coasted to the district win.
The Zebras got a pair of touchdowns in the first quarter with a touchdown connection from reigning MVP in the state title game Dale Jentsch to Cooper Deans. The 34-yard touchdown pass and point after putting the Zebras ahead to stay at 7-0. Jentsch added a second touchdown pass to Jacob Patterson for a 29-yard score to end the quarter with a 14-0 lead.
Grandview added two more touchdowns in the second quarter, the first on a quarterback keeper for a 65-yard score. They would add a touchdown pass from Tremayne Gullatte to Deans for his second score of the game on a 40-yard score.
The Zebras would continue to add to the lead with a third touchdown pass from Jentsch to Kason English and he would add his second touchdown run with a 14-yard burst to the end zone. Nathaniel Baker added a 33-yard field goal before the Lions put their first points on the board.
The highlight for the Lions on the night was a 62-yard touchdown run by Nemier Herod and Escobedo added the extra point to cut the lead to 45-7.
Grandview would add a late score to set the final tally.
Grandview and Whitney remain unbeaten in the district race with West, McGregor and Maypearl one game back. Groesbeck is 0-2 and will travel to Teague (0-1) in a pivotal matchup in the district 9-3A Division one standings.
