September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
The community of Fairfield is invited to join the Gold Out movement by wearing Gold during the Varsity Football game on Friday, September 27th.
“Fairfield has had many kids with cancer and I just love the idea of us rallying together to show support,” says organizer, Lisa Schick.
Childhood cancer is the #1 disease killer of children and adolescents – killing more than all other diseases combined. More than 2,300 children with cancer die each year.
Forty-three children per day are diagnosed with cancer in the U.S., about 16,000 a year – that’s about two classrooms of kids a day.
The cause of most childhood cancers is unknown, and at present childhood cancer cannot be prevented.
Sadly, only 4% of U.S. Federal Funding is solely dedicated to childhood cancer research.
