Texas has new laws coming into effect September 1st, 2019.
Gun Laws – HB 302, HB 1143, HB 1177,HB 1387, SB 535
–Landlords cannot ban renters from legally possessing firearms in their apartment.
–School Districts cannot legally ban firearms from being out of sight in a locked vehicle.
–Legal gun owners in Texas can carry them in public after a state or a natural disaster.
–Changes School Marshal numbers to one or more school marshals for each campus
–A licensed gun owner can carry a gun into a place of worship unless verbal or written revoking of consent.
Lemonade Stands – HB 234
–A child can not be stopped from selling lemonade and other non-alcoholic beverages by city or county ordinance.
Smoking Age – SB 21
–The age to purchase tobacco will be raised to 21 years of age.
Package Theft – HB 37
–Mail and/or package theft carries stronger penalties. Under 10 addresses is a Class A Misdemeanor, a State Jail Felony if between 10 and 30 are stolen from, and Felony of the Third Degree if over 30 addresses.
Disabled and Health Condition Vehicle Registration – SB 976
–A disabled person or a person with a health condition that impedes their ability to effectively communicate can indicate this on their vehicle registration.
Patio Dog Dining – SB 476
–Dogs can now enjoy time on a restaurants patio provided the restaurant allows, and all the proper guidelines are followed.
No More DPS Surcharge for Traffic Offenses – HB 2048
–Driver Responsibility Program is repelled as of September 1st, 2019.
No ‘Spoofing’ By Telemarketers – HB 1992
–Telemarketers can no longer use fake, local looking, numbers to call people.
18 to Buy Dextromothorphan – HB 1518
–Cough syrups containing dextromothorphan now require the purchaser to be 18 years old.
Hunting/Fishing License – HB 547
Proof of licensing may now be shown on a phone via the TPWD website.
It is illegal to send unwanted nude pictures – HB 2789
Unsolicited pictures of nude bodies is now an illegal act, with legal repercussions.
