I know it’s been a couple months since my last column. It’s been real busy here at City Hall with several projects. One project that has been discussed around town is the City Hall Project.
Well, we are coming to the time when the City Hall Committee, consisting of Mayor Kenneth Hughes, Mayor Pro Tem Landis Bayless, resident Vance Oglesbee, and myself, are wrapping up its findings and are ready to present them to you all.
I would like to invite you all to join us at the former Navarro College Career Center campus, also known as “Telephone Hill,” for a Town Hall Meeting on Thursday, July 18 at 6 p.m. The Town Hall will consist of an open house of the property being considered, and a presentation.
The purpose of the presentation is to show what the committee has learned about the current city hall, the question of whether to renovate the current city hall, build a new city hall, or renovate the Navarro College campus, and how to pay for this project. Residents and interested parties will also be able to tour the buildings and ask questions of the committee. We encourage everyone to attend this important Town Hall.
There is also another Town Hall meeting worth mentioning, on Tuesday, July 16. State Rep. Cody Harris will have a Town Hall meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. at the city’s Conference Center. Harris will inform residents on what happened during this year’s Legislative session and answer questions from residents. Before the Town Hall, Harris and his staff will be touring Fairfield and meeting with city leaders. We thank Rep. Harris for holding a town hall here in Fairfield.
And as always, the City of Fairfield employees will take the time to listen to your needs. Feel free to stop by City Hall at 222 S. Mount St. or give me a call at 903-389-2633 or send me an email at nate.smith@fairfieldtexas.net if you have a question or an idea.
