Summer is here and it’s getting busy at your Fairfield Library! June activities include the start of the Summer Reading Adventures, a Teen Volunteer Program, Angels Care Home Health program on Alzheimer’s, Family Game Night/Bingo, and a special Adult Tech Night featuring a guest speaker about the Portal to Texas access for our historical hometown papers.
The theme for the 2019 Summer Reading Adventures is “A Universe of Stories”. Beginning on Wednesday, June 5, and continuing on June 12, 19, 26, July 10 and 17, there will be two programs each Wednesdays at 10 a.m. for the young crowd (birth through age six), and at 1 p.m. for grades first through fifth. There will be crafts, reading hour, snacks, and incentives to attend and read. Pre-register for the Summer Reading program online at www.fairfieldtxlibraryorg, or come in to the library for a paper registration form.
At the end of the six week adventure, the library will be drawing for FIVE Kinde Fires. To be eligible for the drawing, the child must attend four of the six sessions. We are very grateful to Kevin and Carol Moller, Farmers State Bank; Angela Oglesbee, Hometown Pharmacy; Jason Hullum, Community National Bank for the Amazon Kindle Fires.
In addition to the Kindles, we are happy to share a $250 donation to the Fairfield Library from Trinity Star Arts Council for our programs related to arts. More information will be provided on that in the future.
Angels Care Home Health will conduct the inaugural training session for an Alzheimer’s Dementia, Caregiver Support Series. The first session, Understanding Alzheimer’s Dementia, will be on Thursday, June 6 in the Library Community Room. Free to all, the series will be held monthly on the first Thursday at 10 a.m.
Family Game Night on June 14th from 6:30 to 8 p.m. will again feature Bingo, with prizes for every winner. Join us for a night of family fun, popcorn, and … did we mention prizes?
Finally, Ana Krahmer, from the University of North Texas Digital Newspaper Unit, will be the special speaker for June Adult Technology Class at 5:30 on Tuesday, June 18th. Ms Krahmer will share with our community how to utilize the Portal to Texas History website and how to access Freestone county newspapers that were recently added to the collection through the Tocker Grant. Registration is not required for this program.
Donations from our community businesses are always welcomed! If you are a business owner or head-up a community organization, please consider us when you make decisions about supporting your community.
New things are always in the works to make the Fairfield Library a “go to” place for you and your family.
