I have been feeding Fedora now for four- and one-half months. Most of the time the other cows are someplace else but every once in a while, they are around the corral where Fedora is being kept. This past week I went out to feed her and the cows were in the area. Just as Fedora was finishing the bottle, Lucinda came up. Lucinda is another calf we raised along with a little bull called Leroy. We were so enthralled with Lucinda and Leroy both, they were good, calm, and easy to work calves. We always wondered if Lucinda would still be attached to us when she got older. The answer is yes! She still comes to the truck or wherever we are and wants her neck scratched or her ears rubbed.

Lucinda now has a ten-month-old baby who is a doll. He has some white on his face but then her Daddy had some also. So, the other day when I was feeding Fedora and Lucinda came up, Lucinda kept nudging the bottle with her nose. Fedora had finished the milk and I pulled it away from her and Lucinda immediately put it in her mouth! I got so tickled and said to her do you know that your calf just saw his Momma taking a bottle! Lucinda then turned and walked away from me and the bottle. I think if there had been any milk left in the bottle, she would have taken it.

You never know what these animals at the Red Oak Ranch are going to do next.
