Election Day is Saturday, May 4, 2019. Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
On the ballot are three council positions for the City of Fairfield and three aldermen for the City of Teague.
Fairfield
–Place 3: Incumbent Keith Daniels will face off against Robert “Bobby” Nichols.
–Place 4: Incumbent Landis Bayless will run against Luke Ward, Jr.
–Place 5: Incumbent Jason Bosley will defend his appointment against David Steward.
Teague
–Place 2: Competing for this spot will be Dennis Cox, Wendy Bain, Melvin Mims, and Rhonda Jones.
–Place 4: Incumbent Chris Nickleberry will face off against Jamie West.
–Place 5: Vying for the position will be Ryan Mathison and Lois Mims.
Also up for approval by voters is Proposition A by Fairfield Hospital District (FHD) to raise the tax rate cap “not to exceed 25 cents on each $100.00 valuation of all taxable property in the district.”
This is the first request to raise the cap since FHD was first formed, thirty years ago. This would raise the tax rate cap to the state average.
The actual tax rate will be determined later this year, once property appraisals have been completed.
Members of the FHD Board have stated their intention of keeping tax rates as low as possible, with the eventual goal of operating independently of taxpayers, according to Board President George Robinson.
