The Jonathan Hardin Chapter, NSDAR welcomed State Regent Susan G. Tillman. The chapter met at the Gibbs Memorial Library in Mexia, Texas, April 10, 2019.
Chapter Regent Nancy McSwane called the meeting to order and led members in the DAR Ritual. Ann Gokey, National Defense Chairman gave a report of hacking into the US Navy Security System. Hackers infiltrated the Naval contractors prompting the Secretary of the Navy to order a branch wide cyber security review. Some of the data stolen included plans for a project known as “Sea Dragon”. The Pentagon inspector general reported there were critical cyber vulnerabilities and steps were put into place to address the cyber security.
State Regent Susan G. Tillman welcomed newest member Felicia Hancock of Teague , and administered the oath of membership into the National Society DAR and Jonathan Hardin Chapter.
First time members attending the State Conference Marsha Black, Patti Gauntt, and Diane Pullin gave their report on the conference. Marsha Black, Junior Member and Page for State Conference, will be the Chaplain at the officers breakfast at 2020 State Conference.
Regent McSwane reported the book “Freestone Past and Present” by J.R. (Sonny) Session has been accepted into the DAR Library in Washington, D.C., this is the seventh book accepted to be housed in their library. A certificate of recognition was presented to the DAR chapter for being a partner in highlighting the Vietnam Veterans and their families with recognitions and commemorative events.
State Regent Susan G. Tillman gave an inspiring summary of duties and plans during her administration. Through your projects and service Madame Regent said to “Let Your Light” Shine. State Regent Tillman spoke about her state project which is Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.
Chaplain Marsha Black, dismissed the members with a benediction.
