The Texas 4-H Conference Center will serve as the location for the 35th annual Texas 4-H Shooting Sports Extravaganza on April 13.
The center is located at 5600 Farm-to-Market Road 3021 on Lake Brownwood. Event check-in will be at 7 a.m.
“This is a beginner’s match and a learning event, so only first- and second-year shooters in a discipline are allowed to participate,” said Larry Perez, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service program coordinator, College Station. “This event is to teach beginner shooters how to shoot competitively.”
Perez said participation requires a basic knowledge of firearm safety, range safety, and event rules and format. Those who still need some practice before competing can go to a shooting range .
“However, no previous experience in competitive shooting is required for participation,” he noted. “And this year we have a major sponsor for the event –  the Brown County chapter of the Buckmasters American Deer Foundation.”
The cost of the event is $28 per person with online registration at https://texas.4honline.com. Participation is open to 4-H members only. The deadline to register is March 31. There will be no on-site registration at the event.
“The emphasis of this event is on exploring new shooting activities and having fun, so we are encouraging participants to register for events in which they have never before shot competitively,” Perez said.
He said space and time limitations for the event allow for a maximum of 400 participants, and medals will be awarded to the top three placings per age division in each event.
“The rules have been modified to accommodate this being a beginner’s match,” Perez said. “These rules are for the extravaganza only, and rules for any other specific match do not apply at this event.”
