At least two high-water rescues were conducted in Freestone County around 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 2, 2019.
Texas Game Wardens and four volunteer fire departments, including Kirvin, Teague, Dew and Wortham, rescued a person trapped in a deer stand in a remote wooded area on County Road 1055.
Crews used ATV’s and flat bottom boats in an attempt to reach the area. Eventually, a game warden was able to walk in from the opposite side through rising water to bring the person to safety.
All crews were on the scene for approximately five hours.
At the same time, emergency crews responded to a high water rescue on the I-45 service road at mile marker 194.
A driver had disregarded barricades and drove into high water. The person had to be rescued from the partially submerged vehicle.
Responding to the scene were Fairfield VFD, Dew VFD, Freestone County Sheriff’s Office, Texas DPS, and Fairfield EMS.
Thanks to all who participated in these rescues.
