The Wortham Lady Bulldogs endured a long, tough five set marathon and were defeated by the Moody Lady Cats at Bremond High School last Tuesday night.
Wortham fought on the defensive side all night with over 100 digs. The lost the first set 25-15 and came back to win the second and third sets 25-18 and 25-13. While going for the win, Moody took a slight lead and won the close out game 25-22. The deciding set was claimed by Moody 15-10. It was the first time the Bulldogs had a five set match all season.
Senior setter Jayde Hamilton 31 assists, 18 digs, four kills and an ace. Rylee Goolsby had 13 kills and Ashley Mao finished with seven kills and two blocks. Reagan Stuver had 21 assists and 17 digs, libero Hallie Fautt had 21 digs and an ace. Megan Whaley rounded out the Bulldog playmakers with 15 digs.
Since Wortham was the last district team eliminated, they were able to release district awards. Jayde Hamilton was named the District Most Valuable Player and Ashley Mao was Hitter of the Year. Libero of the Year was Hallie Fautt. Rylee Goolsby and Skylar Phillips were named to the first team and Jessica Black, Megan Whaley and Samantha Wright earned second team honors. Reagan Stuver was an honorable mention and DeAnna Whaley was Coach of the Year.
