The Teague Lions scored three first quarter touchdown and led 21-0 and cruised to a 44-0. Teague will travel to West for the second and third in district 9-3A Division II
Maypearl was never a challenge and never ran a play inside the Teague 50-yard line.
The Lions were without the services of starting quarterback Zack Satterwhite and linebacker Dayveon Dixon who were left out of the lineup due to injuries. Connor Smith became the Lions signal caller.
Teague took the ball first and needed four plays to score the first touchdown of the game. On fourth and one near midfield, Gelico Green broke a couple of tackles and scored on a 51-yard run. Roberto Escobedo added the extra point for a 7-0 lead.
Maypearl could not muster any offense and had to punt and the Lion offense went back to work. Nemier Herod took the handoff on the jet sweep and raced to a 50-yard run and extended the lead to 14-0.
The Lions would add a third touchdown before the first quarter ended. Azaya Patrick entered the game in the backfield and his 18-yard score ended the first quarter with a 21-0 lead.
Midway through the second quarter, Green added a three-yard run and the route was on. Escobedo kicked the extra point and the Lions led 28-0.
Teague put some reserves into the game and the Panthers could not move the ball and the Lions managed to close out the game with a shutout. Patrick added a 78-yard touchdown run in the final minute of the third quarter for the 35-0 lead.
Maypearl was forced to punt with about four minutes remaining in the game and the punter bobbled the snap and covered it in the end zone for the safety and a 37-0. On the free kick, Herod picked it up at the Lion 45 and weaved through the defense for the 55-yard return and closed out the scoring at 44-0.
Patrick led the Lions with 161 yards on ten carries and two touchdowns. Green added 97 yards on light duty and a pair of touchdowns. Smith, in place of Satterwhite, completed six of ten passes for 87 yards.
Teague will travel to West and a win would move them into second place in the district race. Grandview finishes against winless Grandview and the Whitney and Groesbeck winner will capture the fourth playoff spot.
