Graveside services for Ayers Moore, 99, will be held on Monday, October 29, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Teague. Rev. Paula Behrens will officiate.

Visitation will be held on Monday prior to the service from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Bowers Funeral Home.

Mr. Moore passed away on Friday, October 26, 2018, at his residence in Fairfield.

He was born in Dew on May 29, 1919; one of twelve children born to William & Emma Pearl Moore.

Mr. Moore graduated from Teague High School with the class of 1938. After high school, he entered into service with the U.S. Army and married Anita Carol West on April 19, 1942, and shared over fifty-eight years of marriage together before being separated by her death on August 4, 2000.

Mr. Moore was deployed overseas during World War II for thrity-nine months. He served with the 5th Army Div. under General Mark Clark in England, N. Africa, Sicily, and other battle locations. He received numerous awards for his combat service including the Purple Heart for being wounded from shrapnel when his jeep was hit.

After his war service, he returned to Teague to work for the City of Teague Water & Power Department where he made a career as superintendent of the department until his retirement in 1985. He later returned to work for the South Freestone County Water Supply.

Mr. Moore enjoyed raising game chickens for several years. He also raised cattle, guineas, and other farm animals.

Mr. Moore was a longtime member of the Dew Methodist Church.

He is survived by one son, Alan Moore & wife Jeanie of Plano; one daughter, Cathy Henson & husband Charles of Waco; five grandchildren, Chad Henson & wife Kate, Alana Arndt & husband Derrick, Adam Henson & wife Rachel, Brandt Hamby & wife Mary Ann, and Jami Barringer & husband J. B.; twelve great-grandchildren, Anna Elise Henson, Madeline Henson, Zander Arndt, Bella Arndt, Drea Arndt, Giada Arndt, Hayden Walker, Hogan Hamby, Rachel Hamby, Brock Hamby, Jayden Smith, and Jace Barringer; one sister, Dolly Morgan of Bedford; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Mr. Moore was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, six brothers, and four sisters.
