The Cameron Yoemen put up 35 points in the first half and made that stand up for a 49-34 win over the Mexia Blackcats at Alvarado High School on Friday night.

Cameron opened the game with a Kadrian Hammond touchdown pass from Braden Brashear. The big play was the order of the day and this one came from 55 yards out and the Yeomen led 7-0. Mexia answered quickly and with a spectacular run by Jadrian Smith. He took the handoff and raced 96 yards for the touchdown. The conversion run failed and the Yeomen held onto a 7-6 lead.

Thomas Melton took care of all seven points near the end of the first quarter. He scored on a seven-yard pass from Anthony Lane and then added the extra point for the 14-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Nico Vargas scored on a two-yard run and with the extra point extended the lead to 21-6. Smith answered with his second touchdown of the night, this one coming from 17 yards and again, the point after was no good and the lead stood at 21-12 for Cameron.

Cameron matched the Blackcats score for score and the Yoemen scored on a Davion Bynaum 58-yard run to grow the lead to 16 at 35-12. Mexia again answered the score, this time through the air. Joshua Beachum caught a 17-yard pass from Jade Proctor and then Proctor added the two-point run to get close just before the half at 35-20.

The Blackcats would close to within nine points before midway through the third quarter. Smith scored his third touchdown of the night on a five-yard run. The conversion run failed and the Cameron lead was cut to 35-26.

The Yoemen would take control in the third with a Brashear 13-yard pass to James DuBose and a fumble return for a touchdown.

Mexia added their final scored when Javi Wright caught a 36-yard touchdown pass from Proctor to set the final score at 49-34.

Jadrian Smith rushed 13 times for 204 yards and three touchdowns. Proctor completed eight of 16 passes for 135 yards and a pair of scores. Beachum had a big game with 101 yards receiving on five catches and a touchdown.

Mexia is still waiting for their field to be ready for play, which was why this game was played in Alvarado. The Blackcats are scheduled for road trips over the next two weeks with games in Teague and Malakoff.
