Funeral services for Barbara Jean Allen, 79, will be held on Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Tabernacle Church in Dew. Pastors Bryan Allen and Jimmy Davis will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Dew Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, with the family present from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Bowers Funeral Home.
Mrs. Allen passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2018, at the Fairfield Nursing & Rehab Center.
Barbara Jean Ray Allen was born in Carlton, Texas on September 8, 1938. She grew up in Freestone County and worked for the Mexia State School for many years. She also served as Election Judge in Dew for many races. Barbara met the love of her life, E. W. Allen, and married him on October 23, 1956. They shared over sixty-one years of marriage together before being separated by his death in 2017. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. Mrs. Allen was a dedicated member of Grace Tabernacle Church in Dew. She loved to have fun and always had a smile and never met a stranger.
She is survived by three sons, Ricky Allen, Cecil Allen & wife Linda all of Dew, and Bryan Allen & wife Stephanie of Belton; one sister, Charlotte Chase & husband Beaury of Teague; thirteen grandchildren, Tarin Gibson & husband Josh; William Rogers, Mark Rogers & wife Rustyn, Craig Allen & wife Misty, Amy Nichole Allen, Stacie Wilson & husband John, Brittany Pierce & husband Roy, Kelly Marberry, Ashley Arrendondo, Amanda Trusty & husband Steven, Joseph Allen & wife Delaine, and Bethany Allen; twenty great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives and friends including her loving prayer partner, Susie Long Young.
Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her husband, E.W. Allen; her mother, Pauline Hughes; and her father, Ralph Ray.
