Plans are in the making this FALL for a “museum to museum” trip to see the “TITANTIC” exhibit at the Mayborn Museum in Waco.

This national tour exhibits more than 150 items from the RMS Titanic retrieved from the ocean floor. The items were retrieved from the Titanic wreckage on the ocean floor more than two miles underwater.

The luxury passenger ship sank on April 15, 1912, after grazing an iceberg off the coast of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.  An estimated 1517 passengers and crew drowned that evening.

Among the artifacts on display will be a teacup in the liner’s distinctive dark blue china pattern, a pair of lady’s dress shoes, a piece of the chandelier from the First-Class smoking room, and part of the ship’s internal telegraph system.

The telegraph system was used to send out the very first International SOS distress signal. Prior to “SOS,” the International distress symbol, “CQD,” was used, but this was in the process of being phased out in 1912.

For more information, contact the trip coordinator, Mrs. Jerri Mc Bay at 903-388-2243.

Various levels of sponsorship range from a PIONEER Individual Sponsor level of $15 to a VAL VERDE Corporate Sponsor level of $1,000.  This program replaces the museum’s prior membership plan.

“Your contributions are extremely important,” says Pratt.  “Those of you who contribute year after year are the foundation of the museum and essential to its ongoing operation.”
