The saga of the visitor to the Red Oak Ranch is over and everyone is happy…except maybe the bull calf! I think he was here about 2 months and The Colonel tried everything he knew to catch him-to no avail. But then, we had a good thing happen. The bull had made friends with one of our little calves and we were able to capture them in one pasture. The Colonel was able to get the Momma of our little calf to go in that pasture when she went down to that fence line to check on her baby. No other cows around so it was a good time!

The three of them were in there for about two or three days. The Colonel went down and cubed that Momma into the trap knowing the bull calf would follow in there also. It was almost as exciting as a rodeo!! The gates were closed; The Colonel worked the bull into a pen and turned the Momma and her calf out. Meantime the bull calf was behaving as if he were actually in a rodeo. He rammed his head into every side of the pen and into the gate. He was bloody but never gave up on the idea he could get out of there. I think he actually did break one of the links in the side of the pen.

The next day when The Colonel got down there the bull had settled somewhat. There was not one piece of grass left in the pen…not from the bull eating it but from him running wild while in there. See how badly animals want to come to the Red Oak Ranch? They never want to go home once they’ve been here for any length of time!!!
