Wortham High School National Honor Society recently elected their new officers for the 2018-2019 school year.

The juniors, soon to be seniors, that were elected are: Ashley Mao, President, EJ Salazar, Vice-President, Kat McKeand, Secretary, and Jayde Hamilton, Treasurer.

The NHS chapter also awarded gift cards to the highest number of service hours earned during the year.

As a part of their requirements for membership in Wortham NHS, members must complete a minimum of 2 hours of community service and mentoring hours each month.  Some members volunteered many more hours including the two recipients that earned the outstanding achievement awards.

Kat McKeand, a junior, volunteered 90 hours this school year, and Katilyn Cartwright gave almost 200 hours of her time this year!

Overall, Wortham NHS members completed almost 850 hours of service to the community of Wortham and its surrounding neighbors.

Inductions for new members are conducted in the fall of each year at Wortham High School.

The NHS faculty advisor is Mrs. Katherine Havens and the principal is Mr. David Hayes.

LOGGING IN THE HIGHEST NUMBER of service hours during the school year are WHS National Honors Society members, Kat McKeand and Katilyn Carwright.
