George Drayton Boyd is slated to direct You Don’t Know Me: The Cindy Walker Songbook for TSAC’s local community theatre this weekend.

The toe-tapping musical was written and designed by Jeff Harrison as a tribute to the late songwriter’s music and her life during this, the 100th year after her birth.

One of the most prolific and successful songwriters in the history of country music, Walker spent her productive years in Hollywood, Nashville and Mexia.

Over twenty of her songs will be performed including “Cherokee Maiden,” “Bubbles in My Beer,” “Miss Molly,” “Warm Red Wine,” “Take Me in Your Arms and Hold Me,” “You Don’t Know Me,” and “Dream Baby.”

Ms. Walker is portrayed by Rachel Bossier and Eden Daniel with a supporting cast of Bob Gage, Scott Bossier, Britain Bossier, Stan Waldrip, Rich Schaufert, Jimmi Joyce (Nichols), Rusty Spacek, Jeff Harrison and Sandra Huffman.  In addition, Karyl Butler, Julie Ann Medford, Matt Mooneyham,  Kayden Busby, Christopher Poole, Anna Allen and Chase Wanyoike will all make an appearance.

The cast will be joined by the Muleskinner Band, including keyboardist Daren Stone, guitarist Steve Yates, percussionist Samuel Bounds, bassist Clif Allen, fiddlers Michael Davis and Meredith Riddle and steel guitarist W.J. Copeland.

A letter received by TSAC recently from the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, Nashville, TN stated “…We appreciate your work in celebrating Cindy Walker and her legacy and wish you all the best for a successful event.”

The show, produced by Trinity Star Arts Council (TSAC), opens at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, with a 2:00 p.m. Sunday matinee performance, at the Teague High Theatre on U.S. 84 in Teague.
