The Fairfield Library celebrated the success of the second Family Game Night on April 20. Open to all in the community, a Friday evening will be scheduled quarterly, typically on a third Friday, for families to come and play together, bringing their own games from home or playing with those at the library.
The Xbox in the teen area is available, as well as the Lego table, checkers and chest in the main area, and tables set up for small group play in the Community Room.
We were excited to see two new families being introduced to the library. We may need to formally appoint Harper Nevill, age 6, (daughter of Sara and Joni Nevill) as our official greeter/hostess because her winning smile and friendly contact definitely won some hearts!
An exciting event in May is FES/FIS Book Writing 2018 coordinated by Rachel Bossier, where she will be teaching what is best sentence rewriter? and how to enhance your written skills. The books written by Fairfield Intermediate School students, along with audio recordings of each, are finished and currently on display at the city library. Time for “Show and Tell.”
On Thursday, May 10 or 17, the fun “Book Mobile” will travel to the Public Library. Parents can meet Rachel and their author/student at the city library to enjoy book sharing, back stories, and cookies with tea.
All books will remain at the city library until the last week of school. Parents can pick up books after the school’s awards’ ceremony, or any other convenient time. Parents or students must present their library card to obtain his/her book. (This is to encourage all to get a library card but if you smile prettily, the librarian will “bend”).
Library Director, Gary Wiggins, says that if you have not been in the library since it reopened last July you are long overdue and they are looking especially for you!
Every week, Mary King, Children’s Program Coordinator, reads a special story to our younger citizens, and then teaches them a fun craft that is based on the story they just heard.
The Community Room is turned into a fun house for kids and parents as juice and a snack is served. Go to the Fairfield Library Facebook page and check out all the photos of the kids and their crafts.
In the meantime, Mary is busy planning for the library Summer Reading Program that begins in June.
More information will be published early in June so that you can start planning for summer fun for kids including guest readers.
Please join us at the library weekdays, Tuesday through Friday, 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, and contact us at 903 389-3574 if you have any special needs.
