Several local athletes competed in the regional track meet at Bowers Stadium on the campus of Sam Houston State University in Huntsville.

RUNNING HIS FIRST HEAT, AND QUALIFYING for the Regional finals on Saturday, April 28, 2018 is Fairfield Eagle thin clad, AJ Polk.

A.J. Polk advanced to the finals in the 200 meter dash but did not advance to the state track meet with a seventh place finish.

Sergio Izquierdo finished 11th in the preliminaries in the 110 meter hurdles and did not qualify for the finals.

Hayley Phillips finished seventh in the shot put but district rival Tashundra Reeves of Mexia qualified for the state meet with a second place finish.

The girls mile relay did not make the finals with a ninth place preliminary rank. Sophomore Jaylin Hughes finished seventh in the pole vault and freshman teammate Abby Coleman finished ninth.

Wortham athlete Zaria Oates finished fifth in both the long jump and triple jump and did not qualify for the state meet.

Teague had a qualifier in third place so they must wait to see if they have a state qualifier.
