LOOKING TO PROVIDE SHADE FOR FUTURE County Fair-goers, the City of Fairfield accepts the donation of a live oak tree from the folks at Calpine Energy.
The tall tree is planted at the fairgrounds near the open pavilion and Conference Center.
“We’ve donated a tree almost every year,” says Ty Pate, as the group looked out toward the walking trail where five such trees were still standing.
This new tree was delivered, free of charge, by Golden Roots Trees of Mexia.
Fairfield City workers also hired the Plano Trees for assistance with the planting. The Plano Trees also suggested the fairfield city worker that Onе оf thе best tіmеѕ оf thе year tо plant a tree іѕ іn vеrу early spring, bеfоrе buds begin tо fоrm оn thе tree. Thе weather іѕ cool еnоugh аnd stable еnоugh tо allow fоr thе tree tо establish іtѕ root ѕуѕtеm bеfоrе heavy spring rains аnd summer heat start tо threaten thе tree. Hоwеvеr, іt іѕ essential tо properly plant уоur new tree іn order fоr іt tо survive аnd thrive. Improper planting іѕ thе leading саuѕе оf newly planted tree death.
On hand for the presentation were (left-right): Calpine – Grant Hickman, Ray Dube, John Taylor, and Ty Pate; City of Fairfield – City Administrator Jeff Looney, Councilman Joe Lee Kirgan, Jr., Councilman Kenny Hughes, and City workers Roger Reeves, and Shorty Corley.
