Fairfield High School competed at Palestine High School in the District 18-4A track meet and will send several to the area track to be held at Fairfield High School.
Josey Richardson threw past athletes from Athens and Mexia to win the discus throw. Tanna Lide finished fourth in the event.
Iesha Jenkins took second in the 400 meter dash. Morgan Coleman and Alexis Rodriguez completed a second and third place finish in the 800 meter run. Coleman had already qualified for the area meet with a second place finish in the 3200 meter run.
Carsyn Cox finished third in the 200 meter dash. Katie Judd finished third in the 100 meter hurdles. Madelyn Gallegos and Judd both qualified for area with a second and fourth place finish in the 300 meter hurdles.
Ashlyn Partain and Erica McQuinn finished third and fourth in the 1600 meter run.
Jaylin Hughes and Abby Coleman continued successful attempts in the pole vault with a second and third place finish. Jada Clark finished fourth in the long jump. Kyndal Crook finished fourth in the high jump.
Hayley Phillips completed a second place finish in the shot put that was dominated by Tashundra Reeves of Mexia by over five feet.
The Fairfield Lady Eagles won the team district title with 173 points with Palestine a distant second with 149 and Madisonville with 146.
Sergio Izquierdo had a great day on the track with a pair of second place finishes in the 100 and 300 hurdles. He was less than a half second behind Marquis Thompson of Palestine in the 100 meter and just inches behind the Wildcats’ Keyshawn Nonnett in the 300 meter.
Fairfield will send all three relays to the area meet with a first place finish in the mile relay edging out Athens. They finished third in the 4×200 meter relay and fourth in the sprint relay.
The guys did not fare as well but had some shining moments in the meet and will send a few back home in the area meet.
A.J. Polk had the fastest time in the preliminaries but Johnny Simpson of Madisonville ran the faster time in the finals to claim the district title and Polk moves on as the second place finisher.
Ty Bachtel finished third in the 400 meter dash behind winners from Athens and Palestine. He also finished fourth in the discus.
Tyler Haynes finished fourth in the 800 meter run.
