I am amused almost every day by the reactions and actions of cows. They are so funny.
We had a round-up a couple of weeks ago and since that time they are totally leery of everything. They just today came up to the barn area after having spent most of the days in the North East pasture or over across the lake. They didn’t want to have anything to do with us.
After the round-up was over and the calves and older cows were taken to Buffalo, we had the Big Tractor worked on. The days of us taking it over to be worked on are over and we had them pick it up.
Of course they came with a big flat trailer but it made noises. The cows ran away! I suppose they might have wondered if they had done anything wrong to deserve a trip to Buffalo and weren’t sure if they were innocent or not. They settled down after the tractor on the trailer left. It was kinda peaceful around here with the cows not coming around the house, yard, driveway, or road.
Then, lo and behold! The tractor was done and they were ready to bring it back! It was as if the cows didn’t remember when the people came to get the tractor and they were not hurt in any way or loaded on to that flat trailer! They scattered like wild fire. Their point of safety is the North East pasture and they will head for that at the drop of a hat.
They are just now beginning to settle back down in to a routine of grazing and coming up close to the yard to see what is happening here! That’s the Red Oak “friendlies” for you!
