City of Fairfield Council, in an attempt to keep Fairfield Market Days up and running, heard proposals from two parties interested in taking over management of the monthly event at the February 27, 2017 council meeting.
Former coordinator, Darlene Jones, resigned following the January event, and the City has been searching for someone step in and take over.
Though the city was able to hold the event in February, at the request of monthly vendors, they are anxious to have an official coordinator in place to handle the ins and outs involved in organizing and overseeing the event.
The first party interested in the job consists of friends, David Fairley and David Butler, who wish to keep the event located at the fairgrounds, but have plans to bring it back to the glory days of the Fairfield Flea Market.
The second party is Amy Ralston, owner of Kennedy’s Korner located in Fairfield.
Mrs. Ralston has plans to move the event to the courthouse square in Fairfield and to make it a Saturday only event.
“I need this town to thrive,” explains Mrs. Ralston. “It’s time for a change. We need this to work so we can get more people to town!”
Both parties express the importance of changing the event date from the fourth to the third weekend of each month, as circuit vendors state that is the only open weekend of the month that they are available to attend.
Mayor Roy Hill requested that each interested party present council with an official proposal by Wednesday, March 7th, to include an official business plan with budgets, requirements from the city, and all other detailed information. These will be reviewed and voted on at the next council meeting.

Mr. Steve Eubanks, President of the Texas State Coonhunters Association requested an additional $3,000 from Hotel/Motel Funds to help with advertising for the State Coon Hunt scheduled for April. Previously approved in this year’s budget was $1,000.
Also requested by the Coonhunters was assistance in acquiring hunting locations. Each group of four hunters requires roughly 1,000 acres of land for a successful hunt.
Council unanimously approved the additional $3,000 and Councilman Randy Johnson agreed to assist in locating hunting properties.
Also at this meeting, council voted to approve a voluntary annexation of a 10-acre tract of land owned by Patriccio Munoz and Ramona Yepez.
Munoz and Yepez are willing to annex into the City in order to obtain City sewer services. They will be paying the cost of connecting to the City’s sewer line.
The next meeting of Fairfield City Council will be held on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at Fairfield City Hall. All are welcomed and encouraged to attend.
