A somber Dabrett M. Black, clad in bulletproof vest and surrounded by three armed deputies, faced visiting 77th District Judge Horace D. Black on Thursday, March 1, 2018 for his arraignment in the shooting death of DPS Trooper Damon Allen.
Trooper Allen’s wife, mother, and sister were in attendance, as well as ten fellow Troopers, to witness Black being read his charge of Capital Murder of a Peace Officer.
There were no family members or friends in attendance supporting the defendant.
Black pled “Not Guilty.”
The prosecution, represented by District Attorney Brian Evans, is seeking the Death Penalty in this case.
Representing Black is Defense Attorney Susan Anderson with the Regional Public Defender’s Office of Lubbock.
Pre-trial has been set for Thursday, June 7, 2017.
