We have the cutest, most unusual calf that has ever been seen. It was born on February 28 of this year and is simply precious! It has also disappeared….more on that later. It is a dark brown/red color has a white saddle strap in the middle of its back, splotches of white on its’ left side, a tail that is dark brown/red at the top and then it is white, and its two front legs are all dark brown/red. I watched it being born from the front room where I had been resting, watched the mother stand for it to nurse, and then woof! It was gone. It is still gone. We have looked everywhere for it.

Today The Colonel went out to find it for sure. He drove all over from the Northeast Pasture to the Front Pasture, the Sweet Gum Grove, and to the edge of the Hay Meadow. He walked the entire length of the Sweet Gum Grove checking every nook and cranny. He checked out the briar patches that are in the Northeast Pasture and the pasture behind the house. He walked in the Northeast Pasture to check the grove by the pond, nothing, nothing, nothing. The only thing he did see was the Momma watching him very closely. So that gives us hope that she has hid that baby so well that no one could find it. He had his rifle with him while he was checking in case he came upon a coyote or buzzards. Nothing. There is no body; no remains.

So, when this little Momma decides that her baby is ready for the world of the Red Oak Ranch, she will go get it and bring it to the herd! I was going to name it Precious but maybe it should be named Shadow.
