The Fairfield Eagles allowed eight points in the second half and rallied for a come from behind win in the regular season finale Tuesday night at the Johnson Activity Center.

A Fairfield win coupled with a Mexia loss to Madisonville gave the Lady Eagles a one game advantage in the district standings and head into the playoffs as the top seed and will face Waco Conally on Monday night at the K. and Ida Wolens Special Events Center at Navarro College.

Palestine had already clinched a playoff spot but got off to a quick start over Fairfield.

Destanee Matthews scored eight points, including six in a row to build a lead in the opening minutes.

Tanna Lide scored inside for Fairfield and JoAnna Zamora hit a long range three pointer.

Carrington Roberts (left) scored at the end of the period to cut the lead to six and Fairfield trailed 14-8.

Roberts and Josey Richardson scored to keep pace in first points of the second period.

Matthews continued the torrid first half pace and Jaila Cook scored on a three pointer to restore the lead.

Braden Bossier hit a shot and then Matthews finished the period with six straight points and the lead grew to 26-16 at the half.

Fairfield came out of the locker room and put the defensive clamps on the game.

Richardson hit a three pointer and then had a terrific assist pass to Bossier for a score.

Zamora hit a three and then promptly stole the throw in and scored to tie the score at 28-28.  With 1:12 remaining the pass went to Zamora for a long range three pointer for their first lead of the game at 31-28.

Matthews points were the only ones in the period and the Fairfield lead was 31-28 heading into the fourth period.

Calhoun scored to draw the game to within one.

Emily Knight hit a three and Bossier scored to keep the lead around three for the remainder of the game.

Fairfield only hit one of their six free throw attempts in the period, but it was enough to hold off the Ladycats for the 39-34 win.

Matthews scored 24 to lead all scorers but she only had six in the second half.

Zamora led the Lady Eagles with 11 points.
