November 13-17, FJH hosted a food drive for those in need. Students were encouraged to bring as many cans as possible. A competition between the grade levels was started in order to get the students more involved.

Everyone wanted to be the grade level that would get to pie their teachers in the face. The end results were pretty impressive. 6th grade brought 540 pounds, 7th grade 598 pounds, 8th grade 406 pounds, for a total of 1,544 pounds!

FJH counselor, Kim Rachel, was in charge of the food drive and the competition.

Students who brought food were instructed to turn them into their science teachers. The science teacher would then give the student a couple of tickets. The number of tickets the student received depended on how many cans the student brought.

After writing his/her name on the tickets, the student then dropped them into a box, hoping that if their grade level won, their ticket would be pulled to pie a teacher. In addition to the fun competition, many teachers were also giving out extra credit to those who participated in the food drive. Students had lots of motivation to go out and buy cans to help the community.

7th grade won the contest. Mrs. Rachel will draw names from the 7th grade tickets and which teacher will be pied. The pie activities will take place a day before we get out for Christmas break.

7th grader’s Danny Barlow, Justin Nesbitt, Dakota Brown, Haley Moore, Paisley Lewis, Kaitlyn Shepherd, Spain Covert, Landon Harris, Shadasia Brackens, Braylon Durham, Leslie Vaughn, and Jenna Billock pie Coach Bachtel, Mrs. Taylor, Mr. Holland, Mrs Partain, and Coach Knowles in the face. This is always such an exciting event for the students, and not so much for the teachers!

It is important that we try our best to help out those in need as often as we can. The food drive is a great and easy way to do this for our community!
