The Fairfield Lady Eagles hosted Madisonville in the District opener and it took all the time for the Lady Eagles to come out with a win.

Josey Richardson hit a fifteen foot jump shot with one second left and the Lady Eagles defeated the Madisonville Lady Mustangs 48-46.

Jo Anna Zamora hit three of four free throws and matche Cooper’s three pointer in the opening period and the teams close game began with an 11-11 first period.

Fairfield opened slim lead at the half with three pointers from Richardson and Tanna Lide.  Jada Clark scored in the period and the Lady Eagles led 21-17 at the break.

Madisonville went on a run in the opening moments in the third period.  Byrd hit a pair of scores and Burns added two of her own.  Braden Bossier had a couple of scores and made one out of two free throws.  Lide hit three of her four free throw attempts but the Lady Mustangs had a 33-29 lead heading into the final period.

The Lady Mustangs had a chance to close out the game but made only three of nine free throws in the final eight minutes.  Zamora hit a three pointer and three free throws.  Richards hit four shots in the period including the game winner with one second remaining on the clock to seal the district win.

Fairfield travels to Athens to take on the Lady Hornets and then a pivotal game against the Mexia Ladycats on Friday.
