Members of Tau chapter met on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 for their first meeting of the new year. The members enjoyed refreshments provided by Goldia Liles and they visited to catch up on everyone’s summer.

The meeting was opened by acting president, Belinda Cotton. She introduced, Jennifer Harrell, CTE Coordinator for Mexia ISD.   Mrs. Harrell gave a very informative program on their CTE program.

Virginia Riddle updated our members on the Alpha State Convention which was held in Houston during June. Tau Chapter was recognized as Early bird and Outstanding Yearbook and our Tau Talk received exemplary newsletter, Goldia Liles is our publisher.

Tau was also recognized for their Chapter website.

Mrs. Riddle was honored again this year with the Members in Print Award.

Creekside Christian Retreat was the recipient of an ASTEF stipend to buy iPads and tools. Sharon Kersten is Director of Creekside.

This is the second year Martha Kirgan has written an application and received the ASTEF stipend for Creekside.

Tau member, Dr. Lisa Rogers, Special Education teacher for Groesbeck ISD, was chosen to present her workshop on “Games for the Classroom “during the convention. She lead Tau members attending in one of the games she presented.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, > October 10, at Gibbs Library in Mexia, Texas. We will host the applicants for our Caroline C. Forsyth Grant-in-Aid.

Seventeen invitations were sent to beginning teachers in our seven local school districts. Tau Chapter has 4- $100.00 checks to present to applicants that attend the October meeting with the completed application.

One of  Delta Kappa Gamma Society Internationals goals is to support early career teachers. Each year Tau Chapter supports early career teachers with “Welcome to our Profession Bags,” “Tau Birthday Bags” and our Carolina C.Forsyth Grant – in-Aid.

The Delta Kappa Gamma is a professional honor society for women educators with more than 100,000 members. Established in 17 member countries around to the world, the Society defines its mission as promoting professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education.  Tau members are excited to begin another year of advancing the society.
