The Fairfield Eagles have given the LaVega Pirates a tough first half in the last two seasons, it’s the third and fourth quarters that begin the downfall.
Fairfield finished the 2016 season with a 2-8 record and played through one of the toughest non-district schedules in the state and this season is no different.
The young and small lineup played a David and Goliath matchup but the Pirates prevailed here.

Fairfield had a three and out to open the game and were forced to punt. LaVega punt returner Malachi Wright muffed the kick and the Eagles took the ball back at the LaVega 45-yard line. A pass interference penalty moved the ball to the 11 and Kameron Ransom took care of the rest. His touchdown run put the Eagles ahead 7-0.
LaVega quickly tied the game with a Kamoche Hobbs 19-yard run and later took the lead when quarterback Jamal Williams broke loose on a 45-yard run. Williams took to the air to put the Pirates ahead by two scores on a 45-yard pass to Jonathon Brown.
Toward the end of the first half, the Eagles were driving for a score but Ransom’s pass was intercepted by Donta Stuart and returned to the Fairfield one-yard line where he fumbled and the Eagles recovered.
LaVega put the game out of reach early in the second half on a Cameron Henry 55 yard run to make the score 26-7
Cameron Henry had 113 yards rushing and a touchdown and John Richards added two more. The Pirates rushed for 345 yards and had 464 yards of total offense.
Fairfield had 161 yards of offense and Ransom had 82 on the ground and 39 yards passing.
The Fairfield Eagles (0-1) take their first road test next Friday night when the travel to Athens to take on the Hornets.
