Several area events are planned in celebration of our nation’s Independence Day.
The 88th Annual Teague 4th of July UPRA-Open Rodeo will kick off this week with a patriotic RODEO PARADE beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2017.
Those entering the parade must be in line by 5:30 p.m. at the West end of Main Street in Teague.
As you are waiting for the parade to begin, stop by the Farmer’s Market for a Hamburger Fundraiser, hosted by Teague Chamber of Commerce. Cost is $7 for hamburger, chips, drink and a cookie.
A READING OF THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE will be conducted on the steps of the Freestone County courthouse beginning on Friday, June 30th beginning at 9:00 a.m.
On Saturday, July 1st, the BOAT PARADE at Lake Mexia will begin at 2:00 p.m.
This year’s theme is “Let Freedom Ring;” and is sponsored by Citizen Association.
The parade route begins at the marina and circles the south part of the lake; and returns to the marina for judging and awards.
All are welcome to participate and attend. Monetary prizes will be awarded to 1st-3rd place winners. Each participant will receive a surprise goodie bag.
There will be a meeting at the marina picnic area on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. to go over the rules, get boat numbers, and to register.

Also on Saturday, July 1st, Fisherman’s Point on the south side of Richland Chambers Lake will host ‘FIREWORKS ON THE POINT.’
Cost is $5 per adult and $2 per child.
Fisherman’s point is located at 230 FM 416 in Streetman. They can be reached by calling 903-389-2423.
In Fairfield, citizens can join the fun at the fairgrounds to watch ARMADILLO RACING beginning at 5:00 p.m. (Turn to page 1-C to meet the celebrity racers)
At 9:00 p.m. the annual fireworks show will begin with music on KNES Texas 99.1.
The City of Streetman will be having their annual LAWN MOWER PARADE and hotdog lunch on July 4th.
Parade lineup begins at 9:30 a.m. and the parade starts at 10:00. Lunch will follow and is free. Donations are appreciated.
This is a community-wide event, sponsored by various community members.
The City of Wortham has no community plans for July 4th this year, per City Hall staff.
