“I feel liberated knowing that all of my hard work has paid off,” says Teague High School Valedictorian Thalia Trinidad.
The daughter of Wendy and Ricky Trinidad, Thalia has two siblings, Gabby and Troy.
Thalia boasts a Grade Point Average of 4.730; and says to her underclassmen, “Take 5 point classes, never settle for less than an ‘A,’ and hold yourself to high standards.”
Her school activities include being a member of the band, National Honors Society, and school newspaper staff, as well as a participant in UIL Spelling and Vocabulary, where she progressed to State competition.
Thalia’s hobbies include writing poetry and short stories, photography, and reading.
She plans to attend the University of Houston to obtain a Communications degree with a focus on Journalism and Public Relations because she enjoys writing and relating to others.
When asked who has inspired her most, she says, “I have far too many to choose just one.”
“I appreciate the intimacy in our high school,” she says. “You are able to know everyone one-on-one, rather than being just a number.”

Salutatorian – Monica Guerrero (above – left)
Earning the title of Salutatorian for the Teague High School Class of 2017 with a Grade Point Average of 4.714 is Monica Guerrero, daughter of Denise and Martin Guerrero.
“I am blessed to earn this honor,” she says.
Monica has one sibling, a sister named Olivia.
Her hobbies include playing volleyball and the clarinet.
During high school, Monica participated in volleyball, marching and concert band, track and field, cheerleading, and powerlifting.
Some of her high school honors include earning student-of-the-week, making the A Honor Roll, earning an engineering award, as well as making volleyball and powerlifting MVP.
Outside of school, Monica coaches the May League volleyball team, as well as playing her clarinet at the Veterans’ Memorial and at the nursing home at Christmas.
Her advice to underclassmen is, “Stay focused and chase your dreams!”
Monica explains what she appreciates most about her high school, “I appreciate that there was always somebody to catch me when I fell.”
Her powerlifting coach, Coach Hardee, is who inspired her the most during her high school years.
“He pushed me past my limits,” she says. “And made me the athlete I am. He convinced me to play college volleyball.”
Monica plans to attend Southeaster Community College in Iowa to pursue a degree in Emergency Medical Services and Pre-Med because she want to become a surgeon when she gets older.
