What do you do with more than 800 gallons of milk? Give them to your neighbors! Did you know that milk has 9 essential nutrients, including 8 grams of high quality protein per serving and is the top food source of three of the nutrients most likely to be missing in the American diet – calcium, vitamin D and potassium?
Brookshire Brothers participates in the Great American Milk Drive each June in each of our 115 stores. This campaign gives our customers the opportunity to donate towards the purchase of milk for needy families in their community. 2016’s campaign was one for the books! We we’re able to donate more than 7,500 gallons of milk across the great states of Texas and Louisiana. This week the Central Texas Food Bank received 828 of those gallons and will be distributing them to 5 agencies in their service area. The recipients are:
- Hays County Food Bank in San Marcos
- River of Life Food Pantry in Fairfield
- Smithville Food Pantry in Smithville
- Falls Co. Samaritan House in Marlin
- Blessings From God in Cameron
As we wrap up 2016’s incredible campaign, 2017’s fast approaches. Be on the look of for the Great American Milk Drive in each of our stores the entire month of June.
