Freestone County Commissioners approve an additional jailer position for the County Jail during their most recent meeting held January 18, 2017.
According to Jail Standards, new legislature mandates each jail is required to have a kitchen jailer; one who’s primary job is to supervise the kitchen during meal prep, service, and clean up. This employee is required to have a food handling license; and must be in the kitchen at all times during kitchen duty.
If they do not approve the new kitchen jailer position, the jail will be considered below average according to Jail Standards.
Sheriff Jeremy Shipley was on hand during the meeting to explain this new development to Commissioners.
Commissioners voted 3-to-1 to approve this new position with monies to cover the salary to come from the 2016-2017 contingency fund.
Shipley also informed Commissioners that all positions have been filled at the jail with the exception of the new position approved at this meeting.
Also at this meeting, Commissioners voted to lift the Burn Ban for the time being due to recent rain; approved Chief Deputy Devin Mowrey’s request to opt out of the Medical and Dental Insurance offered by the County; and approved an interlocal agreement of postmortem examinations by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
Commissioners meet each first and third Wednesday of the month at 9:00 a.m. on the second floor of the courthouse. All are invited and encouraged to attend.
