Since June 1st, 2015, when the last Texas legislative session ended, the Convention of States Texas has pushed forward with the objective that Texas Must Lead.
On Tuesday, December 6th, 2016, Texas State Representative Rick Miller and Texas State Senator Brian Birdwell pre-filed the Convention of States resolution for the 85th Texas Legislative Session, beginning on January 10th, 2017. The respective bill numbers are HJR 39 and SJR 2.
Governor Greg Abbott joined the Texas legislators, and addressed hundreds of Convention of States supporters at the Capitol during the COS Advocacy Forum. The previous week, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick included the Convention of States as one of the Texas Senate’s top legislative priorities.
Your volunteer efforts the past 17 months have led to this moment, with the Convention of States Texas official declaration that TEXAS WILL LEAD! Texas Will Lead the nation by passing the Convention of States resolution early and with overwhelming support in both chambers of the legislature.
With leadership comes responsibility, and we must continue to encourage our state legislators to support the Convention of States resolution during the 85th Legislative Session.
Contact our State Representative, Byron Cook, and remind him of your support for the Convention of States movement and Article V as the Constitutional solution to rein in the federal government.
