Now that we have entered a new year, it is important that we start the year off with a fast. Fasts are not only important for spiritual reasons but they are important for health reasons as well. A fast is when you leave something alone for a period of time and you replace it with more prayer and time with God. I believe it is important to start our year off with one so that it helps us have a clean start or a clean slate coming into a new year. Not only do we need a stronger relationship with God, but we need a stronger discipline with food, habits, and all those things that we spend time on that do not deserve our time.
In order to start a fast, you must think what is it that you cannot do without? Many people have chosen social media because it is such a large part of their lives. How many of you cannot go a couple hours without checking your Facebook or tweeting or snap chatting? Then you go into the food and ask yourself, what is your weakness? The Daniel fast is awesome because it is a fruit and vegetable diet only. This cuts out your pastas, breads, sweets, spirits, and meats. All of those things are what we call choice foods and they are not necessary for survival but instead are privileged foods.
I challenge you to join me from January 10th to January 31st for a 21 day community fast. During this time, we will pray for our new leaders in our city as well as our country. We will pray over our city, families, businesses, and ourselves. We will gain a greater spiritual relationship and cover one another while doing so. I will create a Facebook page for us to follow, share, and fellowship. So, be on the lookout and let’s start this year off on a united front creating a clean state of mind, body, soul, and country!
Happy New Year!!!
