Glen McAdams passed away August 24, 2016, at his home near Turlington. Graveside services were held August 25, at the Mt. Zion Cemetery with David Barnes officiating. Ricky Missildine played the guitar and sang for the service.
Glen was born June 30, 1954, at Lexington, Texas, to George and Mary Poston McAdams. After high school, Glen served eight years in the U.S. Navy. During those years, he visited many world ports, including Hawaii, Australia, China, Japan, and Korea.
Glen worked at the Groesbeck prison and TYC in Corsicana before he began a lawn and cemetery service. He cared for five cemeteries, including the Mt. Zion Cemetery, where he served on the board for twenty years, many as president.
Glen and his wife Selayna were married January 5, 1993. He is survived by his wife and children: Michael McAdams, Brian Barrett and wife Chandra of Fairfield, Veronica Pingleton and husband Tony of Fairfield, Nicolas Molina and wife Viviana of Mexia, Christina Ruelas and husband Jesse of Rockdale. He is also survived by his brothers Jimmy McAdams, Paul McAdams and wife Kimberly of Streetman; sisters Joyce Butler and husband David of Fairfield, Janet McAdams of Fairfield; and eleven grandchildren and two great-grand children.
Glen was preceded in death by his first wife Carol McAdams in 1990. 11e was preceded in death by his parents George and Mary McAdams, and grandparents Vernon and Cleo McAdams. The McAdams family were early pioneers to Texas with Glen’s great-great-great grandfather John McAdams arriving before Texas was a state.
Glen’s great-great grandparents, Joseph Ervin and Hannah McAdams, settled in the Mt. Zion area in 1851. Joe Ervin and his uncle George Washington Walker and other early settlers built a log church on Sugar Hill, where the Mt. Zion Cemetery is located. Glen and his family reside on a portion of Joe Ervin McAdams’ land today.
