The voters of Freestone County have spoken, and they have chosen to elect the Republican nominees over the Write-In Candidates during tonight’s General Election.
Below are the results for the two locally contested positions:
–County Commissioner – Pct. 1
Republican candidate: Andy Bonner (APPARENT WINNER)
–Early Voting: 1,384
–Election Night (#1 & #12 reporting): 380
–TOTAL: 1,764
Write-In candidate: Gerald D. Manning
Early Voting: 114
–Election Night (100% reporting): 29
–TOTAL: 143
–County Commissioner – Pct. 3
Republican candidate: Michael Daniels (APPARENT WINNER)
–Early Voting: 745
–Election Night: (#2, #11 #13 & #14 reporting): 338
–TOTAL: 1,083
Write-In candidate: Cooper Daniel
–Early Voting: 545
–Election Night (#2, #11, #13 & 14 reporting): 206
–TOTAL: 751
This year’s election has seen a huge turnout, with 40% of registered voters in Freestone County casting their ballots during Early Voting.
“A long, long day,” says Freestone County Clerk Libda Jarvis, as her office waited for Election Night returns at the Civic Center in Fairfield, Texas. Candidate supporters and family were gathered to wait for final word from voters.
Once the contested local elections were decided, and candidates celebrated, the evening ended with an impromptu prayer for the candidates, the newly elected officials and the nation as a whole.
