Dear Editor:
I agree with Jan Fielden that a last-minute candidate, Cooper Daniel, running as a write-in candidate against Mike Daniels for Precinct 3 is unethical. I also agree with her that Mike Daniels in a position of real influence is apparently a threat to the “establishment” in this town. I note that Cooper’s ads stress that he is more “conservative”, but he isn’t specific about what, and he has absolutely no government experience at all. However, he is apparently related to some of the establishment in question.
This set-up smacks of racism to me, no surprise in this town. I’ve been here 23 years and have heard plenty of ugly, racist comments by people who then proudly march to church, loudly proclaiming how “Christian” they are. Mike Daniels worked very hard to win the primary and should be supported, not undermined, by the Republican Party here. He has been a community leader for many years and deserves the position more than any last-minute write-in candidate.
